I’m extremely nervous and excited uploading today’s blog post, as I know it’s the start of something new. The start of a new adventure that sees me open my entire life to the world and a world that consists of travel, fundraising and personal development, with a tad, well a lot of personal life experiences.
I didn’t think I’d be here so soon, knowing my original plans were to do this in a few years time, so you can imagine how anxious I’m feeling about what’s in store. But…
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I’ve gotten to this point as I’ve always taken risks. I started volunteering almost 5 years ago with a bad perception about giving time to others, when I would have preferred spending my free-time sitting on the sofa, drink in hand (non-alcoholic) and playing a game of FIFA. Yet, it worked. For some strange reason, after an hour of giving my time to the community, my perception changed. I found a love in volunteering and a love in learning more about who I am.
I know I’m John Sennett, a 25 year old guy born on Valentine’s Day, so what more did I have to learn? I had to learn to self-love. I had to take these 5 years to love who I was, and to believe in everything I done; even when I didn’t succeed.
That’s the beauty of being on an adventure. An adventure will always have it’s ups and downs and it’s down to us to make it work; even when they don’t. It’s down to us to learn from our mistakes and to use the things we learn to make them work in the future.
I might not have been a successful personal trainer, but what I learned from that, I’m now using to walk to Aberdeen. I might not have been a professional athlete, but I’ve built a resilient attitude to everything I do.
People have always said to me that things happen for a reason, and I now believe them. I believe that everything has been leading up to this new adventure, and it’s time to embrace what’s happened.
I can’t change the past, but I can influence the future.
The future is bright. The future is full of exciting projects and adventures. The future is full of self-love and self-belief.
I might have brought things forward by a few years, but I’m ready. I’m ready to take on the world once again and to stand tall knowing I’ve done everything I’ve wanted to do.
Here’s to the new adventure…
